In addition to being a freelancer, I spend my time working as the co-founder of Passion Project NYC, a startup that strives to bring together creatives of all backgrounds in New York City. This initiative has allowed me to connect with passionate artists and creatives from all over the city, helping them find their crowd, purpose, and tangible work opportunities. From making flyers to launching a website, this journey has allowed me to get my hands dirty with so many different types of work. As someone who doesn’t want to be constrained to one particular medium, kickstarting this platform has been incredibly rewarding.

Since I was in high school, I’ve always wanted to pursue video production and filmmaking.  After moving to New York, I realized very quickly how difficult it was to find people doing similar things, and I wanted to collaborate with others to build depth in my films. I had to rely on my network or friends of friends to meet other creators which really slowed me down. I figured I was not the only person struggling with this issue so I started hosting mixers for creatives to meet each other and collaborate. Passion Project now gives me the platform to meet people who inspire me AND are down to make projects happen.  For example, I shot a music video for an artist that I found at a Passion Project mixer and it wasn’t just a client-videographer relationship, I actually made a friend in the process. The power of connections is undeniable.

THE STORY

In a city as large as New York, it can be overwhelming and difficult to find the right path and tap into communities that energize you. In the past few years, we’ve seen a major shift in the creative industry. People want to spend time on their passions, are driving in on their individuality and uniqueness, and striving for both career and personal growth through creative means. The industry, however, is more disconnected than ever and limits real opportunities to a select few. Moreover, with so many people striving for big things, finding the people and the work that resonates with you is hard to come by.

Our goal is to open the gates, and let the independent creator take control of their own growth. Through meeting with like-minded people, initiating projects, and setting up your path to growth, you can now be your own creative entrepreneur. We’re bringing the brightest minds together to kickstart the next big thing, without the hassles of searching to find the right fit for your vibe.

THE VISION

Mixers and events

Over the past year, we have hosted 9 events for creatives from all backgrounds to meet each other and come up with ways to set their project ideas in motion. These events included mixers, coffee chats, and showcases.

Kicking off showcases at our events was particularly exciting because it gave up-and-coming artists a stage to share their work and get live feedback. We’ve had creators showcase their work in visual art, podcasts, app launches, music, fashion, and more.

SOCIAL MEDIA

I designed and created the website for Passion Project to allow us to help creatives find project opportunities more efficiently. Why have to wait for our mixers when you could have access to the community at all times? I wanted to ensure that the site represented the true ethos of our organization and also clearly depicted who we are.
